Abstract
The role of brain ACh on sleep, wakefulness and dreams in cats was investigated. Graded doses of HC-3 were injected into the 4th ventricle and their effects were studied with EEG recordings from chronic cats. HC-3 facilitated SWS in dose dependent fashion; however, PS was virtually abolished with as little as 1 μg of HC-3. It is concluded that ACh activity maintains the states of vigilance and, more so, the phenomenon of dreaming.
