Abstract
Aerosol samples were collected by using a 8 or 10-stage cascade impactor and a streaker sampler in Beijing area during the period from 1986 to 1991. Elemental analysis of each particle size fraction of the samples collected was carried out by particle induced X-ray emission (PIXE) at a 2×1.7 MV tandem accelerator. From the measured results of the concentrations for the 18 elements we obain the average value of the mass concentrations (total sum of these elemental concentrations) of the aerosol to be 42 mg/m 3 in urban districts of Beijing and some characteristics of the aerosol in Beijing are also discussed.
