Abstract
For the past decade, much public attention has been directed to conflicts between the demands of work and the demands of family responsibilities among adults in American society. A central concern is the proper role of American employers in alleviating or resolving work-family role conflicts. While debate surrounding this concern has generated much steam, some smoke, and a little fire, the progress that has been made in defining employers' proper roles in this arena is not impressive.
