Abstract

Abstract This chapter begins with a history of the theoretical perspectives on the importanceof social relationships for health and well-being. It then presents a seriesof models that explain how social factors can influence health and discusses thechallenges facing the field in regard to the development of measurements andinterventions. The chapter concludes with an overview of the remainder of thevolume.
