Indian Library Practice as Reflected in Library Periodicals

Analysis of the bibliographic citation and the content analysis of the selected Indian library journal articles revealed an unusually heavy reliance in their research and publishing activities by library practitioners in India and non-India library sources, especially from U.S. and U.K.

Abstract

A study was conducted of Indian library practice and research followed by a discussion of the growth in number of library periodicals in India. An analysis of the bibliographic citation and the content analysis of the selected Indian library journal articles revealed an unusually heavy reliance in their research and publishing activities by library practitioners in India and non-India library sources, especially from U.S. and U.K. It was also revealed that authors of the articles of Indian library periodicals repackaging the findings reported in overseas library journals in order to transmit information to practitioners in India whose access to mots overseas library journals is not easy. In essence, the library journals in India are carrying out a gatekeeper's function.
