The development of first songs in young children

Abstract

A longitudinal study of young children's singing suggests an evolution into two types of vocal performance-one, an organized approximation of standard tune structures, the other a fluid exploration of the vocal medium. These early musical developments are examined in the light of conceptual progress in other media.
