Abstract

Departmentalization may be defined as the manner in which the work of an organization is allocated among its divisions.* Consider, for example, a hypothetical business corporation which produces cars, airplanes, trains, and trucks. After the nature of its output has been determined, the corporation must still allocate production among its different divisions. The type of allocation used is the corporation's departmentalization.
