Abstract

Part 1 The principles of learning: developing a favourable learning attitude in your students identifying characteristics of different types of learning how people learn applying principles of learning to individual teaching strategies student-centred learning and performance judging. Part 2 The principles of teaching: recognizing differences and similarities between students' learning characteristics choosing appropriate teaching methods identifying and evaluating different teaching methods matching teaching skills to method combining and integrating methods planning, preparing and delivering a teaching programme. Part 3 Learning resources: identifying availability of learning and teaching resources selecting appropriate learning and teaching resources using the learning resources centre using audio-visual aids when teaching using computer and data processing aids when teaching resource planning. Chapter 4 Course organization and curriculum development: formulating aims and objectives defining terminology appropriate to curriculum development formulating and justifying aims and objectives for a specific training programme identifying factors influencing the design of schemes of work integrating schemes of work, outcomes, and assessment procedures. Chapter 5 Assessment: translating objectives into performance goals designing, using and evaluating tests objective testing assessment methods compared classifying and evaluating assessment methods planning and preparing assessment procedures. Chapter 6 Communication: identifying socio-cultural influences on language communicating in teaching and learning situations the importance of communication style selecting the communication mode communicating effectively with students enhancing student communications. Chapter 7 Role: describing education identifying institutions and agencies associated wih further and adult education why students enrol for courses appraising social and educational backgrounds of student groups relating group appraisals to planning creating an environment conducive to learning health and safety in the learning environment counselling, guidance and classroom management involving students in curriculum matters promoting students' participation in their professional and personal development identifying the roles of a teacher identifying and evaluating characteristics of personal teaching styles.
