Abstract
As the results demonstrate, members of the flight team judged, on average, that the use of a virtual environment for training had a positive effect on their job performance during the HST repair and maintenance mission. Moreover, audio and visual cues provided a positive aid in using the virtual environment. The discomfort experienced by some of the participants did not pose a serious problem with training transfer, but further study should be devoted to reducing these effects. The positive experiences reported here have broadened and deepened the interest of NASA in the use of VR technology as a training tool.>
