Abstract
Hierarchic and network systems are discussed as basic frameworks of unstructured problems modeled by the Analytic Hierarchy Process. A hierarchy represents a linear chain of interactions, whereas a network allows for feedback in the form of cycles and loops. A theory is provided for the priorities of a network system of which those of a hierarchy are shown to be a special case. Practical applications are illustrated.
