Abstract

Abstract This paper is based upon work done with K. R. Hackwell in Ecology Division to provide a better basis for comments on management proposals. We began from the assumption that conservation of species and their habitats is desirable. Much conservation can be done in man‐modified habitats, but here we are dealing purely with the reservation of land of natural character.
