Abstract
THE THREE-YEAR PROJECT, the Maternal-Infant Core Competency Project, (MICC) is funded by the Division of Maternal and Child Health of the U.S. Public Health Service, Department of Health and Human Services. It is a consortium project, co-sponsored by the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation (MOD), the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), the American Nurses' Association (ANA), and the Nurses Association of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (NAACOG). Representatives of each of these organizations form the project's Coordinating Council, and along with the project director, oversee the project. The purpose of the project is to develop a core competency framework for the maternal-infant component in baccalaureate nursing education. This framework should allow educators to prepare students to provide more effective and continuous care to pregnant women and neonates.
