Abstract

Working mothers experience tremendous demands on their time and energy as a result of the combined responsibilities of a job, a family, and a home. Career-orientated wives may increasingly consider the child-free state as a liberating alternative. Freed from child care responsibilities, a woman who is committed to a career may benefitfrom greater mobility, fewer family commitments, and more time for professional development. Career women may find the flexibility and freedom afforded them by the child-free alternative are necessary for competing in today's world.
