The Relationship of Class Size, Class Level, and Core Vs. Non-Core Classification for a Class to Student Ratings of Faculty: Implications for Validity

Abstract

This research was concerned with the significance of three non-instructor related parameters in instructor evaluation at a major state university. These parameters included class size, class level, and core vs. non-core sections of classes. A paired difference analysis was utilized to minimize instructor-to-instructor variability associated with scheduling or administrative factors not under immediate control of the instructor. This analysis may help clarify some of the conflicting results found in the literature regarding the significance of these parameters.
