Abstract
The views of residents on the area they live in were surveyed in relation to urban, suburban and rural areas. The more urban the area the more likely the residents are to be dissatisfied, to report problems and to live in poor quality neighbourhoods. The major concerns of people in rural and suburban areas were access to public transport and opportunities and facilities for young people. Urban areas were more likely to have serious problems with air quality, heavy traffic, and nuisance from street parking and litter/rubbish dumping. There was a perception that if local areas had changed, it was generally for the worse. Reasons given for house moves are tabulated.
