Abstract
This communication concerns RFID tags. It describes different tag technologies and their main characteristics, design, and application. The traditional tags based on IC chip are first presented and discussed in terms of capabilities and limitations. Then, chipless configurations are addressed and different architectures are described and discussed. Some of the chipless tags are known as RF barcode tags since they potentially will replace the much known optical barcode. Other chipless configurations based on THz signal are also described. Some simulation results for chipless are also presented.
