Abstract

The World's Youth: Adolescence in Eight Regions of the Globe provides a detailed review of the sociocultural development of adolescents in eight regions of the globe. On the one hand, the book is noteworthy for its comprehensive attention to the totality of the adolescent experience in terms of societal issues, whereas, on the other, for its near total lack of attention to mental health concerns in this same population. Identifying the target audience for the book was perhaps more of a problem than is acknowledged as it becomes evident that the material varies widely in its objective versus subjective focus and its detailed versus general approach.
