Abstract
Based on the experiments of Hosoya and Yoshida (1937), and Ottoson (1956), various attempts were made in the late sixties to record electrophysiological activities elicited by odorous Stimuli in humans. The first to report a successful recording of an electro-olfactogram (EOG) from the human olfactory mucosa were Osterhammel et al. in 1969. Cerebral evoked potentials had already been obtained several years before from the electroencephalogram (EEG) by Finkenzeller (1966) and Allison and Goff (1967). Also, by the use of invasive techniques, spontaneous EEGs were recorded from the olfactory bulb as well as from the amygdala in patients (Hughes and Andy 1979).
