would like to add one more consideration.I have recently observed two cases of post- anaesthetic jaundice in which halothane was employed.On careful investigation these were proved to be due to Gilbert's disease (congenital hyperbilirubinaemia). Starvation precipitates icterus in these cases, causing a raised plasma unconjugated bilirubin level, usually within 48 hours.The incidence of Gilbert's disease may be as high as 5% and it should therefore be a consideration in the differential diagnosis of cases of post- anaesthetic jaundice.-Iam, etc.,
