Abstract
Abstract Literature from the field of developmental behavior genetics is reviewed. Overall, the literature suggests that the relative effect of genetic influences on cognitive ability may increase with age, whereas the relative effect of shared environment—those environmental factors that serve to make children in the same family similar to one another—may decrease. The implications of these findings are discussed, including the importance of studying environmental influences outside the family.
