Abstract
This paper describe a common reference architecture for Real-time Ethernet systems, to bridge the gap within existing Ethernet based industrial communication technologies from implementation point of view. Another objective is to enable industrial applications to benefit from emerging information technologies in other application domains. A flexible and modular architecture may enable resolving certain limitations of legacy industrial communication systems, which could increase the system's overall productivity in many ways. The paper present the core components of the proposed architecture, together with some evaluation results and conclusions.
