Abstract

Popularisation of the concept of counterurbanisation reflects the recognition that a turnaround in patterns of migration is occurring in many countries. However enthusiasm for the term should not conceal its various limitations. Among these the preoccupation with macro-processes may encourage the neglect of local and personal perspectives that are important to understanding migration and its impact. A middle range approach is illustrated by reference to research in West Cornwall an area of substantial recent in-migration. (EXCERPT)
