Abstract

An adequate daily supply of energy and nutrients is necessary to maintain an individual in a normal physiological State of health and to offer the best resistance to illness and trauma, such as infections, burns, surgery, etc.

Evidence is presented that the binding capacity of albumin may be fundamentally changed when erythrocytes are present and binding studies merely with albumin solutions, plasma or serum may be misleading when pharmacokinetic implications are argued.

A wide variety of pharmaceutical preparations contain surfactants and, as Swisher pointed out, the vast industrial production of these compounds has resulted in their widespread occurrence throughout the biosphere.

It was concluded, that the initial uptake of the drugs is influenced by their lipophilic character, whereas the distribution equilibrium depends particularly on their binding in the perfusion media.

The binding of lipophilic substances to erythrocytes may be of similar pharmacokinetic importance as the binding of substances to plasma proteins, as the experiments demonstrated.

There was a correlation between the corpuscular flow velocity and the thickness of the marginal plasma layer, and the most important parameters of the flow (arterial and venous blood pressure, body and object temperature, hematocrit and heart rate) were found to be constant during the time of observation.
