Abstract
Part II of this book is concerned with criticism and debate. Four chapters (Chapters 8 to 11) are concerned with challenges to the critical realist project in economics, emanating primarily from methodologists; these are followed by a response from Tony Lawson (Chapter 12). My purpose in this introducion is to provide something of the context of this interchange by situating critical realism within the broader subject field of economics and economic methodology.
