An Introduction to Discriminant Analysis

Abstract

An intent of this article is to provide an interpretation of "discriminant analysis" that includes two sets of techniques, predictive discriminant analysis and descriptive discriminant analysis. The basic purposes of these two analyses are discussed. Common introductory practices associated with current applications of predictive and descriptive discriminant analysis are reviewed, as are additional practices that might be applied and questionable practices that have been applied.
