TL;DR

Taxonomy may be tedious but one wonders why Slack and Gerencs are lumpers: they reference 7 Actinomyces spp.

Abstract

even a heading within it, the term nocar diomycosis never appears in the text! Another word we can do without is para tideomasseteric (readily divinable, but try it on your Stedman or Dorland). My curiosity was pricked by the prefatory allusion to controversy about Actinomy ces spp. in periodontal disease. The subject is referenced but the issue is never confronted: Who opposes the role? With what alternative hypotheses or, better, data? Taxonomy may be tedious but one wonders why Slack and Gerencs?r are lumpers: they reference 7 Actinomyces spp. rather than the 21 found in another medical mycology text.?John P.
