Abstract

As more women enter full-time employment and the traditional male breadwinner role becomes eroded, the growing number of dual-career couples present a significant challenge to employers. Drawing on an extensive survey of dual-career families, this study argues that a radical shift in organizational policy and practice is essential to ensure a flexible and effective workplace in which the demands of work and family can be balanced satisfactorily. Case studies used throughout the text provide an insight into the needs and experiences of dual-career couples.
