Abstract
Abstract The 8-chlorobicyclo[3.2.1]oct-6-ene 3 has been prepared by a [3+2] cycloaddition route, and converted to the bicyclic α-methylene ketones 6 and 8 – 12 , some of which showed cytotoxic properties.

A novel mechanism of anti-inflammatory activity which is based on the direct inhibition and modification of the IKKβ subunit of IKK is demonstrated, which explains how cyclopentenone prostaglandins function and can be used to improve the utility of COX2 inhibitors.

109 Citations1997Massimo Santoro
Cyclopentenone prostanoids inhibit virus replication by turning on an intracellular defence response that involves the induction of cytoprotective heat-shock proteins and the modification of viral glycoprotein maturation.
