the Joint Commission released its 2009 National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs). 1 These recently updated goals reflect the Joint Commission's continuing efforts to improve the safety and reliably of health care by providing clinicians with imperatives that can help ensure patient safety.These goals provide a clear pathway for health care practitioners to follow in efforts to reduce errors and improve both the quality and safety of health care.
