Abstract
The most common complaint patients make about their medical care in both the United States and Britain is that they are not being told enough by their doctor (Bertakis, 1977; Fletcher et al., 1979). The kinds of information patients want to be given concern their illness and its treatment. However, other studies have shown that physicians provide the information but it is not remembered or understood by approximately half the patients (Ley, 1983; Rost and Roter, 1987). There is surely a problem in the communication between doctors and patients that is worthy of our attention.
