Abstract

Considers essential elements for investigating group differences: establishment of differences between the groups and presentation of difference to the members of each group for explanation. Applies this theory of investigation to white and non-white students at the University of Natal. Describes procedures in the research, dealing with students' autobiographical essays and answers to questions related to goals and ambitions. Deals with research results related to political, economic, and social discrimination, barriers to individual achievement, and group inferiority and group traditions. Summarizes white students' orientation toward private satisfaction and non-white students' orientation toward community goals
