Abstract
\n In the present work we have studied the photoinduced ion chemistry of the 2Cl-pyrimidine\n molecule in the energy region 9−14 eV. The theoretical gas phase enthalpies of formation of the main\n fragments calculated using the G3B3 and G2 ab initio methods are compared to the\n experimental values, derived by the measured appearance energy of the fragments. This\n approach provides new insights into both the geometric structure of the ionic fragments\n and the basic mechanisms governing the molecular fragmentation.\n

Findings suggest that the rational manipulation of drug administration schedules and the use of combinations of radiosensitizers have the potential to improve the efficacy of the currently used agents and to establish the benefit of new ones.

It is found that the exchange-correlation functional based on the local spin density approximation (LSDA) seems to be a cheap choice for the estimation of enthalpies of formation for heterocycles containing nitrogen atoms; the well-known B3LYP hybrid method yields larger differences, with respect to the experimental values, for 2,4,6-tri- and 2, 4,5, 6-tetrachloropyrimidines.
