Tools for the field: methodologies handbook for gender analysis in agriculture.

Abstract

This book entitled Tools for the Field is a collection of field examples of gender-related research. It examines the link between gender differences and technological development that affects the needs of small farm households. In addition it further highlights the improvement in the concepts and tools for gender analysis and presents 39 cases focusing on the use of research tools gender differentiation and dynamics of small farms. A number of chapters in part 1 address the issue of farmer or informant selection. The second part focuses on the development and success in research planning on-farm experimentation and trial assessment. Chapters in part 3 on the other hand describe community studies carried out with farmer cooperators as primary informants that provide deeper insight into the intra- and inter-household relations that affect farmer decision making and resource constraints. The fourth part discusses the extension training and institutionalization of programs in different countries.
