Cardiovascular autonomic imbalance, measured as a reduced BRS, is present in metabolic syndrome and in subjects with insulin resistance. As BRS mainly reflects vagal activity, future prospective studies will address the possibility of vagal impairment in the pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome.
