Abstract

This book reviews neurocybernetics and neurobionics. Neurocybernetics is herein defined as cybernetics which concerns itself with regulatory processes and the utilization of information by the nervous system. Neurobionics, on the other hand, is concerned with the elucidation of neural mechanisms and the application of this knowledge to technical problems. The book contains chapters on principles of cybernetics, neuronal models and the theory of neural networks, the problems of form recognition, homeostatic systems, and the importance of neurocybernetics and neurobionics in medicine. This small volume first appeared in Russian in 1968, and with the tremendous advances in the field is somewhat dated. Nevertheless, it will give the reader a reasonable introduction to this complex area.
