Interdisciplinary Lessons: The Two Social Psychologies from the Perspective of a Psychologist Practicing Sociology

Abstract

Although my graduate training was to a large extent in psychological social psychology and my graduate degree itself from a department of psychology, through a combination of accident and intellectual proclivity a substantial portion of my professional career has taken place in the arena of sociology. Over forty percent of the papers in my bibliography are in sociological publications. This split in my professional identity has given me an unusual vantage point from which to observe the relationships between the two fields and their respective sub-disciplines of social psychology.
