Abstract
The reactions of populations to danger vary all the way from mass hysteria to general apathy, and provoke perplexing problems for attitude research. Here is a study of individual variations in reaction to the threat of radioactive fallout. Sidney Kraus is Chairman of the Mass Communications Program and Assistant Professor of Radio and Television at Indiana University. Reuben Mehling, now Chairman of the Department of Journalism at the University of Rhode Island, contributed to this study while at Indiana University. Elaine El-Assal is a research assistant and doctoral candidate in the Mass Communications Program at Indiana University.
