Abstract

An adequate preference modelling on each criterion is a crucial prerequisite for multicriteria analysis. The use of criteria surrounded by discrimination thresholds aEows a great flexibility and realism in preference modelling. After having recalled the theoretical foundations of the notion of discrimination thresholds, we show that they allow to build a convincing preference structure on each criterion in spite of the imprecision and/or uncertainty of the "data". We then justify the use of two thresholds in practice and review a number of techniques allowing to evaluate them in a number of common situations.
