Abstract

The changing role and status of visitor attractions In the 1970s and 1980s visitor attractions became widely regarded as an essential feature for any successful tourist destination development. Gunn suggests in his book, Vacationscape (1988: 37) that 'without developed attractions tourism as we now know it could not exist; there would be little need for transportation, facilities, services and information systems'.
