Abstract
SYNOPSIS Based on measured weather data from 1960 to 1992, four climatic parameters affecting energy consumption in buildings have been selected and analysed. These are cooling degree-days (CDD's), heating degree-days (HDD's), latent enthalpy-days (LED's) and cooling radiation-days (CRD's). CDD's give an indication of cooling requirement in general, LED's indicate the effect of latent cooling and CRD's correlate with cooling load penalties due to unwanted solar heat gain. In sub-tropical Hong Kong, heating degree-days are small compared with those for a temperate climate.
