Abstract The present study compared changes on 16 factors during the psychiatric hospitalization of 40 male patients with the changes in a control group of 25 male prison inmates tested and retested 5 months apart. The two groups were found to differ significantly on six of the 16 factors on first testing, but to differ on none on second testing. The patients showed a reliable decrease in fears on 10 of the 16 factors, while the inmates did not change on any. The findings suggest that the fear factors may be useful for assessing changes in various types of therapy.
