Abstract
Life in the Trenches (1990, acrylic on board, 51×63 cm) is an expression of the experiences of Godwin Constantine during times of bombing in Jaffna, Sri Lanka—almost a daily event during his medical training between 1983 and 1991 (the course had to be prolonged because of the war). Much of the inspiration for his paintings, which he has shown in exhibitions in Jaffna, Colombo (where he now lives), and Norway, has come from his experiences of war.
