Abstract

This study presents an attempt to develop a hitherto lacking theory of evolution of technological systems. The thesis is advanced that short-term development is a process of equilibration governed by the dynamics of the object system while long-term development is a process of disequilibration governed by the dynamics of the whole system. The theory is further developed and illustrated. Its implications for the contemporary paradigm of socio-economic sciences are discussed.
