Abstract

Studies that use qualitative research designs have been found in the nursing literature for several decades. There also are many articles in the nursing literature that describe qualitative research in general, as well as particular qualitative research designs. Guidelines for evaluating qualitative research also have been published (for example, see Burns, 1989; Chiovitti & Piran, 2003; Davies & Dodds, 2002; Hall & Callery, 2001; Mays & Pope, 2000; Morse, Barrett, Mayan, Olson, & Spiers, 2002).
