Computer-Assisted Instruction for Intraoral Radiography

Abstract

A computer program was developed to teach students the technique of intraoral radiography. Programing was done with a newly established software system (DUS/ComCats) and program construction branched in a manner termed “complex wash-back”. Students responded to multiple-choice questions and, if responses were incorrect, the program either automatically returned to earlier frames or gave supplementary information as an aid in getting the correct answer. Teaching objectives were defined to determine the students' knowledge (cognitive domain) of intraoral radiographic technique. Unlike other computer-assisted instruction-programs, higher cognitive objectives (the level of application) were reached in the present investigation. The attitude of students towards the programs was in general very favorable.
