The Galerkin Method for the Numerical Solution of Fredholm Integral Equations of the Second Kind

Abstract

A unified discussion of the Galerkin method is given for the approximate solution of Fredholm integral equations of the second kind and of similar linear operator equations. The numerical stability of the approximate solutions is also discussed. As an application of the Galerkin method, the classical Fredholm–Nyström method is reviewed.
