Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of the challenges and opportunities associated with collecting, using and analyzing process data for behavioral research. The recent surge in activity-based model development has clearly motivated the collection of behavioral process data as researchers attempt to incorporate increasing degrees of behavioral realism in the model structure and specification. The chapter provides an overview of survey methods and design considerations and the numerous issues and challenges associated with collecting process data. Finally, the chapter outlined a series of research needs and potential funding opportunities for conducting fundamental research on this topic and for actually collecting the data in a real project situation.
