Abstract

This introduction presents key concepts discussed in this book, including the information and industry guidelines civil design engineers need to produce engineering design documents, bid documents, and construction documents. This technical reference enables civil engineering design professionals to prepare construction drawings, technical specifications, bid schedules, and engineer's construction cost estimates using a consistent methodology, style, and format. The book presents recommended guidelines, design approaches, and philosophy to prepare quality construction documents, emphasizing loss-prevention; constructability; risk-sharing; fairness; and avoidance of claims, disputes, and litigation during construction. It relies on traditional academic knowledge of mathematics, geology, geotechnical engineering, engineering graphics, surveying, engineering contracts, and structural engineering to provide the technical basis for the investigations and designs.
