Abstract

Amsterdam has a unique and beautiful fan-shaped canal water system. Using this unique water system structure, Amsterdam has constructed beautiful buildings on both sides of the canals, which improves the city's attractiveness and highlights the city's unique features. Amsterdam is one of the cities with the highest proportion of bicycle journeys in the world, and its inhabitants have a deeply rooted bicycle culture. Almere, a new city located in the metropolitan area of Amsterdam, adopts a three-layer hierarchical structure in planning and construction, which ensures complete separation of pedestrians and vehicles, with benefits for job–housing balance and commercial and residential integration. It provides a reference for the construction of other eco-cities.
