Abstract
While no consensus on the definition or method of assessing sexual compulsivity exists, there is a growing realization that certain sexual behavior patterns could become the agent for compulsive disorders. This paper reviews the controversy over definition and conceptualization and offers a hypothesizd definition of sexual compulsivity, etiology and treatment methodology. One high risk group for developing sexually compulsive behavior patterns is chemically dependent individuals and their family members. The reasons for this higher incidence rate among this group are explained and professionals are urged to look for symptoms of sexual compulsivity and look for treatment opportunities as simply treating the chemical dependence or co-dependence will rarely alter this symptomology.
